What is the Maha mantra?

The Maha Mantra, also known as the Hare Krishna mantra, is a 16-word Vaishnava mantra mentioned in theali-Santarana Upanishad. It is believed to be the simplest and most effective means for attaining spiritual realization and inner peace in this current age of Kali. The mantra goes as follows:

Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna,

Hare Rama, Hare Rama,

Each word in the mantra has a significant meaning: "Hare" refers to the energy of God, "Krishna" refers to God himself (means 'the all-attractive one and "Rama" refers to 'the reservoir of pleasure'.

This Maha Mantra is chanted as part of japa meditation or congregational chanting (kirtan). It's so potent that it can elevate one's consciousness by purifying one's mind from material contamination and reawakening one’s original spiritual essence when chanted with devotion.

What are the various forms of Yoga?

Who is Srila Prabhupada?

Srila Prabhupada, also known as His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, was an Indian spiritual teacher and the founder-acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), commonly known as the Hare Krishna movement.

Born on September 1, 1896 in Kolkata, India, he was first introduced to Vaishnava philosophy and devotional practices in his early years. In 1944 he started publishing a magazine called "Back to Godhead" from his home and later became formally initiated into the Gaudiya Math (spiritual institution) by Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura.

After many years of and living a humble life as a monk or sannyasi, he came to New York City in 1965 at the age of 69 with a mission to introduce bhakti yoga - devotion towards Lord Krishna - to the English-speaking world.

He translated over sixty volumes of classic Vedantic scriptures into English language enabling western audience understand apply these profound teachings their lives.
